There’s nothing like a good denim jacket. Jean jackets are classic casual fashion essentials, as denim fabric is durable, comfortable and so versatile; dressed up or down really easily. Jean jackets give off a classic and casual vibe and looks great on everyone. From hipsters to celebrities; we all wear a version of this denim staple. Denim outerwear originated way before Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake wore their all-jean ensembles in the 90’s. Denim didn't even originate in the US, but in Japan. In the 1800’s, Japanese indigo dyeing and denim weaving were used for firemen as a part of their work wear, made from flame-resistant wool dyed in indigo. Another early jean jacket emerged in France. The garment was known as “Bleu de Travail” or “work blue” and distinguished a worker from a boss. In the late 1800’s, designer Levi Strauss created the “working blouse,” a preview of today’s jean jacket. Cowboys liked denim due to its durability and the fact that it looked cool. In the early 1900’s, the U.S. Army “working blues” included a denim jacket or work suit. Levi’s introduced lightweight jackets into its line and put out a denim jacket for women in the 1940’s, popularized by Marilyn Monroe. By the 1950’s, jean jackets exploded in popularity as a fashion item for youth and celebrities alike. From the 1970’s onward, the jean jacket took a turn from an all-American workwear piece to a symbol of rebellion. Films like “Easy Rider” cemented the jacket’s association with biker culture. In the 80’s, Madonna and Debbie Harry rocked versions of the denim jacket, embellished to suit their individual styles. 1980’s denim looks had spikes and patches for the “punk” look. In the 90’s heyday of denim-everything, jackets came in a variety of styles. Typical features were acid or light stone washes, over-sized silhouettes, and distressed denim patches. At Everything5Pounds.com, you can shop any style of jean jacket to suit your taste. Basic, classic styles and vintage pieces are especially on trend right now. It makes sense- the original, quintessentially cool denim jacket is timeless. Denim coordinates with all clothing and can be worn year-round. It’s amazing what 5 pounds can get you...
